Slakthusområdet: Stockholm's New Meeting Place for Food, Culture, and Experiences
Slakthusområdet is undergoing a massive transformation. The area is being developed into an urban district where food and culture take center stage, while carefully preserving and enhancing its cultural heritage. Atrium Ljungberg has been entrusted by the City of Stockholm to develop large parts of this new district.
On January 31, 1912, King Gustav V inaugurated Stockholm's first public slaughterhouse just south of Södermalm. This marked the beginning of 100 years of livestock slaughter and food production in Slakthusområdet.
Throughout its hundred-year history, Slakthusområdet has been characterized by a strong entrepreneurial spirit. We are building on this legacy as we embark on the next hundred years. New forms of workplaces and housing will emerge here, creating a unique and creative district in Stockholm that proudly carries its culinary heritage into the future.
Unique Urban Development Opportunities
Slakthusområdet is one of Stockholm's largest urban development projects, and in May, the first detailed plan for the area gained legal force. In June 2019, we took possession of the first properties, and in total, we will develop approximately 200,000 square meters of GFA for offices and housing, complemented by culture, retail/restaurants, hotels, education, and more. The area contains buildings from various decades that collectively contribute to its cultural values and history. Many of these will be preserved and integrated as the new area takes shape.
Major Investment in a New Food and Culture Destination
In the spring of 2023, Hus 26 opened, a new meeting place with handpicked restaurant and bar concepts in industrial-style premises. Hus 26 is part of Slakthushallarna, a collection of Art Nouveau industrial buildings from 1912 connected by the large Förbindelsehallen. The ambition is to create a completely unique place in Stockholm's, and perhaps even Sweden's, restaurant and cultural scene.
The acclaimed chef duo Adam Dahlberg and Albin Wessman, behind the restaurants Adam/Albin and Misshumasshu in Stockholm, have opened SOLEN, their largest restaurant ever. The niche listening bar Hosoi, Stockholm Roast, Bar Montan, and the club and concert venue Fållan have also established themselves in the area.
Our vision is for Slakthusområdet to become Stockholm's premier meeting place for offices, housing, food, culture, and experiences, and a driving force for the entire southern part of the city. A new, unique, and attractive district in the inner city.
