Sickla: The Nordic Epicenter for Sustainability, Innovation, and Well-being

Anyone who visits Sickla soon realizes that this district has something truly unique. People and businesses have been drawn here for hundreds of years, and the industrial heritage is clearly evident. Now, new layers are being added to Sickla as Stockholm Wood City, the world's largest wooden city, takes shape.

Sickla has always had a driving force. As early as the 1700s, a gunpowder factory, a tar distillery, and Sweden's first calico printing works chose the area for their operations. However, the most prominent example of Sickla's role in the industrial development of Sweden is AB Diesels Motorer. In 1898, the company began manufacturing the then-untested diesel engine, which eventually achieved great success and laid the foundation for Atlas Copco. Today, it is a global company with 39,000 employees and its headquarters in Sickla.

History is always present in Sickla, with clear layers in the architecture and buildings that now house entirely new activities; Dieselverkstaden (cultural center), Formalinfabriken (meeting place, smokehouse, and creative offices), Tapetfabriken (hotel), and Monteringshallen (crafts and café). Every walk is a journey through time.

A Great Climate for Growth

Sickla has always attracted entrepreneurs, and today the district is home to over 8,000 people and 400 companies with a wide range of focuses. Here, newly formed tech companies and international industrial giants inspire each other in lively neighborhoods where airy and modern offices coexist with Sickla's extensive offerings, from hotels and culture to retail and services.
