Uppsala City - Developing Central Uppsala with New Acquisitions

We are highly engaged in the development of Uppsala, both in the city and in Gränbystaden. In Uppsala City, we own Forumkvarteret, which has been a central part of Uppsala's city center since 1953. With the new acquisitions of Mejeriet and Kvarteret Ångqvarn, we are further strengthening our office offerings.

Forumkvarteret consists of an entire block and is located in the heart of the city with a high flow of people to and from Uppsala Travel Center. In recent years, the area has undergone extensive renovation and has been developed into an urban inner-city block that now includes attractive offices, ground-floor shops, a strong restaurant offering, and housing. Among the office tenants are Academic Work, Knightec, and Tengbom Architects.

New Acquisitions in the City – Mejeriet and Ångkvarnen

At the turn of the year 2020/2021, Atrium Ljungberg made two acquisition agreements in central Uppsala; the property Uppsala Kvarngärdet 33:2, also known as Mejeriet, and parts of the project property Uppsala Kungsängen 22:2. Uppsala Kungsängen 22:2 is located at Skeppskajen along the Fyris River. The property was built between 1902 and 1940 and is better known to Uppsala residents as Ångkvarnen, where Lantmännen operated for 150 years. The acquisition included three historic buildings within the property; Silon, Kvarnen, and Jästfabriken, all of which have high cultural value.

After the project is completed, the three buildings will comprise approximately 9,300 sqm of offices with public ground floors. Here, we aim to create a vibrant district where unique offices are mixed with housing and activities such as restaurants, retail, preschools, and culture. The buildings have a fantastic location by the Fyris River and will become a link between the city and Kungsängen.

Mejeriet was built in 1912 and is located in central Uppsala, about a five-minute walk from Uppsala Central Station and Forumtorget. As the name suggests, the building was a dairy until 1997 but was converted in 2000 to house offices. The property covers approximately 2,500 sqm of leasable area and is fully leased. With the acquisition of Ångkvarnen and Mejeriet, Atrium Ljungberg advances its position in central Uppsala and increases the offering of attractive offices.
