Nordisk Film opens cinemas in Sweden – collaborates with Atrium Ljungberg
Nordisk Film, which owns the largest cinema chains in Denmark and Norway, is now planning an investment in Sweden. As a first step they will open two large cinemas in Uppsala and Malmö. Atrium Ljungberg, one of Sweden’s largest real estate companies will build the new cinemas with Nordisk Film as a tenant. The aim of the investment is to create and make available a greater cultural and film offering for Swedish consumers. The investment currently covers two cities, but Nordisk Film and Atrium Ljungberg are also planning a third cinema in the Stockholm region.
“ Nordisk Film is a leading cinema operator in Denmark and Norway. For a long time we have explored the opportunity to show films in the Swedish market as well, a market which we believe has the potential to grow. This agreement will give us a good foothold in two of Sweden’s largest cities,” says John A. Tønnes, General Manager of Nordisk Film Cinemas.
“ Today’s cinema goers seek the exclusive and emotional cinema experience which we can provide. With our experience from Denmark and Norway, we want to contribute to improvement of the Swedish cinema market and create new attractive opportunities for Swedish cinema goers,” continues John A. Tønnes.
The cinemas which will initially be built will be located in Atrium Ljungberg’s properties in the two cities. In Gränbystaden in Uppsala there are plans for a cinema with five auditoriums with expected opening at the end of 2018. In Mobilia in Malmö there are also plans for a cinema with five auditoriums. Opening of the cinema in Malmö is planned for the spring of 2020. Both cinemas will be ultra-modern facilities and have the best technology for both audio and visuals.
“ Atrium Ljungberg’s vision is to create urban environments which are vibrant around the clock. Cinemas are an important part of this work as they create an offering after regular opening hours. For us Nordisk Film is an experienced collaboration partner which will be able to offer an attractive and innovative entertainment offering,” says Annica Ånäs, CEO of Atrium Ljungberg.
“ The cinema market is growing and we are convinced that cinema will be one of the most popular cultural choices in the future as well. Cinemas offer entertainment and an opportunity for the entire family to socialise – it is a true social medium, something which people are demanding more than ever. Therefore we are working to expand our business in a target-oriented manner,” concludes John A. Tønnes.
