Atrium Ljungberg concludes an agreement with Nordic Choice Hotels for Tapetfabriken in Sickla
Through its chain Clarion Hotel, Nordic Choice Hotels will manage the hotel in the old classic Tapetfabriken (wallpaper factory) in Sickla. The hotel, which will open in the spring of 2020, will offer 156 hotel rooms and a 2,000 m2lobby space with restaurants, events areas and conference premises.
“I love buildings with a history. In the Tapetfabriken you can literally feel the smell of old wallpaper manufacturing. This will be a hotel which will captivate the visitors with its amazing atmosphere. When the plans were presented to me, I just knew that this was a place for me to manage a hotel. There is fantastic potential and with future infrastructure investments in the area, this will develop into an incredibly attractive area,” says Nordic Choice Hotels’ owner Petter A Stordalen.
In Sickla you encounter a unique atmosphere of old and new. A vibrant city in which people live and work alongside shopping, restaurants, culture and international companies. Approximately 5,000 persons work here. The area’s long history is reflected in the carefully renovated industrial buildings. The shopping district in Sickla is one of the largest retail hubs in Stockholm with 150 stores, 30 restaurants, several gyms and a cinema. It is easy to reach here due to the proximity to buses, the cross-town light rail link, Saltsjöbanan and important traffic routes. Within a few years the underground route to Nacka will also be completed with a station in Sickla.
“Sickla is one of our most prioritised areas and a large proportion of our project portfolio is located here,” says Annica Ånäs, CEO of Atrium Ljungberg. “We are now adding the next piece of the puzzle to the city Sickla together with a very well-reputed partner. A hotel is an inviting meeting place which adds qualities to Sickla in the form of a lounge and restaurants, which both hotel guests and other visitors can enjoy. It is a part of our strategy for the city of ten good reasons to be in a place”.
The building was constructed in 1906 and originally housed the prize-winning wallpaper manufacturer Kåberg’s wallpaper factory. Since then it has been used as a service building by Atlas Copco and has also been a creative office. During the reconstruction to a hotel, the façade will be reconstructed with original bricks and the aim is to incorporate the history in the hotel business. The project entails reconstruction and extension of the office property which will be converted to 12,000 m2GFA hotel and office as well as a garage. The project is covered by current detailed development plans.
